As you can see, we decided to make it count this summer on our big trip down south to see Lance and lots of other family! Now we need a vacation from our vacation!
We started our visit at Mickie and Chuck's and had fun going to the houseboat, jet skiing, checking out their new pool house and helping Chuck celebrate his birthday.

Our visit to Richard & Sandy's in Florida was even more special since Russell, Evie, Zibby and Alan was there! First things first, off to the beach in Panama City!
'Mad Trey' because I wouldn't let him climb up on the rocks. Sorry, bud!
The hoopla started when the kids noticed a family of racoons living among the rocks. Yikes!

Day 2- rain, rain, rain :-(
Left a little early to get out of the rain and do some shopping!
Dinner at Oma's Haus- yummy German restaurant
Before leaving New Braunfels, had to stop at the famous, Buc-ee's Truck Stop. That place was amazing! Check out the video below for more varieties of beef jerky than you ever knew there was, haha! (Trey in a Buc-ee's hat)
Ok, last stop New Orleans! I was eager to show the kids some of the (nicer) parts of NOLA and experience that culture before heading home for the summer.
We arrived in the evening after a long drive from Texas to the St. Charles Hotel and this nice little surprise.... When the heck did that happen??!!
Woke up ready to storm the French Quarter, only to see it was already storming. :-(
Thankfully, it didn't rain too much longer and we were off...
Jackson Square....
Breakfast at Cafe Du Monde! (ah...memories)
Cafe au lait for me and beignets for everyone!
Trey's souvenir is a bendy wooden snake. Had to have it.
Looking for a place to cool off, we found the Louisianna State Museum with amazing exhibits on the first floor of the devastation to reconstruction from Hurricane Katrina on the first floor and the history of Mardi Gras on the 2nd. We wound up spending a couple of hours-- it was really cool!
here's is Fats Domino's refurbished piano salvaged from his home. The next picture shows how it was found....
These beautiful bottles were hanging from the ceiling as we entered. Really cool effect...
The views from the 2nd floor....
Here is a slideshow of the Mardi Gras exhibit. So much history, it was facinating!
"Parades, Balls and the Courir du Mardi Gras - are explored in the show. Based on original research, the exhibit traces the emergence of New Orleans' parades and balls to the present-day, statewide extravaganza that attracts millions. The vast scope of the Museum's collection appears in three focus galleries replete with ephemera. Favors, souvenirs, invitations, etc., are displayed in huge cases and "open storage" cabinets. The most dazzling focus gallery - the Crown Jewels Vault - houses an astonishing array of tiaras, scepters, necklaces and other baubles worn by generations of royalty."
